Company principal David Brownstein completed a PhD at the University of British Columbia in 2006. In addition to his work with Klahanie Research, David teaches in the Geography Department at UBC. He has previously worked for Environment Canada, Parks Canada, the National Archives of Canada, and the UBC Botanical Garden.
Kathryn McKay, Research Associate. Kathryn has extensive experience as a researcher and has participated in a variety of studies including mental health, single motherhood, and First Nations land claims. She has been called as an expert witness in a land claims case and has worked in a law office as a Document Manager. Kathryn is currently a PhD candidate in History at Simon Fraser University, where she is exploring the confluence of colonialism and psychiatry.
Eva Prkachin, Research Associate. Eva's research specialties include the study of traditional ecological knowledge, western scientific practice, and food history. She has two years' experience conducting original archival and secondary source research, having visited government and academic repositories nationwide. Her work has been awarded funding by the prestigious Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and she has been twice granted fellowships from UBC.
Andrew Cienski, Research Associate. Based in Victoria, Andrew has worked with Coast Salish and Kwakwaka'wakw Elders to document and translate their language and history. He has conducted extensive research on the Douglas Treaties. This work resulted in maps and analysis pertaining to land and sea resource use within south Vancouver Island traditional territories. He holds an MA in Linguistics from UVic.
